Since FEN warn us about the removal of healthy patterns of Spanish food and give us tips for 365 days a year
The holidays we have taken their toll and it’s time to lose those extra kilos and return to a healthy diet. Why do not recover the Mediterranean diet guidelines?
“We are witnessing a continuous change in eating habits of the Spanish population, leading to a continued shift away from traditional diets and healthy. This could cause adverse short-and long-term health of the population,” reminds us Gregorio Varela president of the Spanish Nutrition Foundation (FEN). From this body urge us to return to the Mediterranean diet, hailed as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO last November.
Advice for 365 days
• Use olive oil as the main cooking fat.
• Eat plenty of plant foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts.
• Breads and cereals (pasta, rice …) must have a daily presence on the menu.
• More fresh, seasonal produce.
• Dairy as a source of protein.
• Less red meat and more fish, especially oily fish.
More than ingredients …
International recognition of Mediterranean cuisine because it is much more than a combination of foods. It is a cultural concept that includes the kitchen, the way of eating, conversation, good food and that is support for social and family relationships. That is, a whole way of life has been enriched on both sides of the Mediterranean and today is as great exponents of Spain and Italy.
Back to the Mediterranean diet is back to healthy eating guidelines and should always be combined with daily physical activity.
