Hazardous Ingredients in Conventional Cosmetics | Synthetic Ingredients
The list of cosmetics that contain artificial or synthetic ingredients is almost endless: shampoos, toothpastes, soaps, gels, facial cleansers, lotions, hair conditioners, masks and so on.
On one side are the abbreviation PEG-polyethylene glycol emulsifiers, which are substances used to curdle water and grease or detergents. Themselves are not toxic but they contribute to eliminate the protective factor natural skin so that the immune system is more exposed and therefore is more vulnerable. That is, the skin and, by extension, the body becomes more receptive to other substances, including toxic. Hence not allowed to use more than five PEGs in one product.
How to recognize? Well usually appear with the acronym PEG followed by a number indicating its molecular weight but are also recognized by the letters eth at the end as is the case steareth, Ceteareth-one or more employees, sodium laureth sulfate. The latter should not be confused with sodium lauryl sulfate, a detergent used very irritating in 90% of conventional shampoos and toothpastes that are in the market. Phthalates are solvents and softeners that can be found too easily in creams, nail polish, perfumes, hair sprays and deodorants. And why the European Parliament banned its use-from January 1, in the manufacture of toys that can get into the mouth and childcare articles as they are related to damage to the reproductive and endocrine systems as well as an increased risk of asthma and cancer. At least this has in some studies, for example, by the University of Rochester (USA), which states that exposure to these substances is also linked to an increased risk of genital abnormalities in male babies.
Well, there are six types of phthalates can not be used as or in the manufacture of toys for safety reasons but can meeting them in various cosmetics. Check labels and avoid them, especially the first three mentioned. It seems that the gap between science and consumers is enormous.

Toxic Components in Conventional Cosmetics | Alarming Data
The Environmental Group EWG (Environmental Working Group) notes that most cosmetics and personal care products sold in the United States fail to be controlled by government agencies to comply with all health regulations.
Each year, the EGW updates a database which analyzed 7,500 brands of soaps, shampoos, nail polish, hair dye and makeup. The result is that most brands contain ingredients that can harm the organism and which have not been controlled by the FDA.
According to a survey by the EGW, along with five other health and environmental organizations, adults use every day about nine personal care products, exposing us to some 126 chemicals, some of which have not been tested in depth. Read the rest of this entry »
